COURSE DETAILS

Designed for new and aspiring Project Managers in the electrical trade, this 3-day intensive program covers the complete Project Life Cycle:

  • Project Acquisition & Initiation
  • Project Planning
  • Project Execution
  • Project Completion & Close-out

This three-day program is structured around applied project management skill development, anchored by the IEC Credit Union Sample Project, which participants work through from initiation to closeout. Every session includes real work, real decisions, real communication practice, and real-time instructor interaction. The course is not about consuming information; it is about building capability.

The Course Objectives are to:

  • Identify hard and soft skills necessary to effectively manage projects
  • Assess/evaluate current skill set to determine strengths and weaknesses
  • Provide resources and activities that will challenge participants as they develop/improve necessary skills

Participant Prequalifications:

  • Have access to a laptop computer or similar device with internet connectivity
  • Minimum proficiency with and access to Microsoft Office tools including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and SharePoint
  • Currently working as a new Project Manager (or in training to become a Project
    Manager), a Project Engineer, an Estimator, a Contract Administrator, or
    other role related to managing projects
  • Be actively engaged in the electrical industry and employed by an electrical contractor or in a similar field
  • Have a minimum of three years’ experience as a Foreman or Lead Electrician

WHAT TO EXPECT

  • Interactive Sessions: 8 hours of instruction daily.
  • Hands-On Activities: Bring a laptop (Wi-Fi required) for collaborative exercises.
  • Homework: Expect assignments on Wednesday and Thursday evenings.

COST

  • Greater Charlotte IEC members: $1,500 per seat. ($500 off per seat for groups of 3 or more.)
  • Non-member rate: $2,000 per seat.  ($500 membership initiation fee waived for those who would like to join our IEC Chapter.)

(Breakfast and lunch provided; travel and lodging are the attendee’s responsibility.)

About the Instructor:

Brian Brinkmann will be the instructor for this course offering. He is currently the President & CEO of Tutor Electric Service, Inc. in Mansfield, TX.

Brian has been actively involved in the electrical industry for almost 35 years, with over 27 years at Tutor Electrical Service, Inc. After an eight-year career in Retail Management, Brian entered and completed a four-year Electrical Apprenticeship Training Program. He came to Tutor Electrical Service, Inc. in 1997 from a contractor in Florida, where he worked as a Project Foreman/Superintendent, successfully completing several large commercial and institutional projects. Brian is a licensed Journeyman Electrician and has worked as a Project Foreman, Estimator, Project Manager, Vice President, and COO at Tutor Electrical Service, Inc. prior to being named President & CEO.

Brian is committed to the successful future of the merit-shop, independent electrical contractor through his leadership roles with the Independent Electrical Contractors Association (IEC), serving on the Board of Directors of IEC Fort Worth and the Professional Development Committee of IEC National.

Brian holds a Post-Secondary Technical Degree in Industrial Electricity from Eastern Florida State College and is a graduate of the 80-hour Construction Project Management Institute at Purdue University. He also holds Masters’ degrees from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and Tarleton State University.
